The Barracuda™ Uncrewed Surface Vehicle (USV) is a large high-performance naval training target, designed for Threat Representation and military operational training.
Based on a modified navy standard, the Barracuda is powered by a marine diesel engine with 225 horsepower and is in the form of a rigid-hulled inflatable boat (RHIB). Operating at speeds in excess of 36 knots in Sea State 2 (SS2), the Barracuda is one of the best performing surface targets within its category.
Self-contained tracking capability ensures missions stay on-track with the platform's on-board GPS. With remote control over distances greater than 10 nautical miles or configuration for Over-the-Horizon (OTH) control, the Barracuda can replicate a variety of high-speed naval tactics. Effective in stimulating straight-on high-speed attacks, crossing patterns, zig-zag patterns and other evasive maneuvers, the Barracuda also benefits from incredible endurance with a 208 litre fuel capacity.
The Target is typically used by customers to represent threats posed by Fast Attack Craft (FAC), Fast Inshore Attack Craft (FIAC) and Close Quarter threats to commercial shipping and Naval vessels and has been used to test the effectiveness and operational readiness of weapon systems including: Surface-to-Surface Missiles, Surface-to-Air Missiles (in Surface-to-Surface mode), Air-to-Surface Missiles and Naval Guns/Cannon & Close In Weapon Systems.
With industry-leading capability and equipped with a range of optional payloads, the Barracuda can be effectively customized to meet the requirements of various sea-based training exercises.
