We’ve seen the future, and it’s greener
Energy and the environment have been rising rapidly up government and corporate agendas in recent years. They’re equally high on our own agenda as we work with customers to help maximise their energy efficiency, secure affordable energy sources, reduce their environmental impact and seize the commercial opportunities presented by the greening of the economy.
Some of our activities in this challenging and exciting area are:
- Developing and testing high performance hybrid-electric drive systems for vehicles
- Creating new materials to improve conditions in buildings and public spaces – one recent multi-million pound contract was to refurbish London Underground’s Warren Street station
- Making it easier to exploit new oil and gas reserves in challenging environments, and maximising extraction from existing fields
- Helping customers to harness wave, tidal and wind power, from concept design through to physical testing in our world-class facilities
- Reducing the environmental impact and cost of civil aviation
- Developing novel technologies to treat and manage waste on land and at sea, including black and grey water, solid waste, food waste and oily water
