The highly manoeuvrable ‘Mirach’ Target is ideal for air-to-air weapons training and can be operated from sea-skimming to 39000ft
QinetiQ has a 20-year contract with the UK MOD for a Combined Aerial Target Service (CATS) to deliver aerial targets for weapon operator training and weapon system test and evaluation. The service includes tri-service delivery, four different aerial target systems, three service delivery teams operating out of three main bases in the UK and deploying worldwide (including High Seas Firings).
The target services operate at ranges worldwide, offering multiple targets from multiple manufacturers, either as single campaigns or long-term managed services. QinetiQ provides a service that meets the UK MOD’s unmanned sub-sonic aerial target requirements worldwide, including ground-based air defence training, aerial target services for the Royal Navy, and an air-to-air service for the RAF.
With 30 different payload options such as IFF and chaff dispensers, the ‘Banshee’ Target can be used in a wide range of training and T&E scenarios
Each of the proposed aerial target technologies has met a strict selection process. A key feature of CATS is that QinetiQ’s independence from manufacturers allows it to make use of the best proven targets on the market, both today and in the future.
By realistically emulating threats we enable customers to test and evaluate the effectiveness of their weapon systems and train weapon operators to current regulations, in a safe environment, using live missiles.
