Tri@RIAT Lockheed Martin shield
A QinetiQ team won the 2009 Tri@RIAT Lockheed Martin shield, beating off competition from eight major engineering companies such as Rolls Royce, as part of the Royal International Air Tattoo Challenge 2009.

Dave Cummins, Graduate Engineer on Chinook Flight Dynamics at Boscombe Down, supported a team of four Year 10 pupils from St John’s School, Marlborough, a specialist Technology College.

2009 Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert Awards
The Tarsier™ automatic foreign object debris (FOD) detection system has received praise and recognition for its contribution to British engineering innovation at the 2009 Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert Awards. The MacRobert Award is one of the country’s most prestigious engineering prizes and represents the very best in current British engineering achievements. This year the theme was Celebrating Innovators in Engineering. Tarsier was highlighted in the final shortlist of four entrants for the innovation behind the system and the benefits it creates for airports.

We have recently been awarded the prestigious Carbon Trust Standard for all our work to reduce our energy use.

RoSPA success
In 2009 QinetiQ won more prestigious RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards taking our total to 10 Gold awards across our major sites and Divisions in the UK.

David Rawlings, RoSPA awards manager, said: “QinetiQ has shown a commitment to protecting the health and well-being of its employees and others. Entering the RoSPA Awards reinforces the message that good health and safety is good for business, and clearly demonstrates an organisation’s dedication to improving performance in this crucial area.”

QinetiQ won Best Graduate Campaign and The Best Recruitment Literature Award at the 2009 Recruitment Advertising Awards. This brings to 21 the number of awards QinetiQ has won in just 6 Graduate Campaigns.

2009 CIPD Recruitment Marketing Awards
At the 2009 CIPD Recruitment Marketing Awards, QinetiQ won first place in ‘The Best Graduate Campaign’ for the sixth consecutive year.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Ambassador
Annette Smart, based at Malvern, was chosen in 2009 from over 1,000 STEM Ambassadors in the West Midlands, for an award in recognition of her significant contribution to the Science and Engineering Ambassadors programme in the region.

Annette was singled out for praise in a nomination from Linda Scott, SETPOINT Manager, Hereford & Worcester: “Many schools in the area have benefited from the support of the QinetiQ STEM Outreach programme and Annette has monitored and supported the work of the STEM Ambassadors involved. Her understanding of the education system and the national STEM agenda has allowed Annette to shape the portfolio of Outreach activities supported by QinetiQ Malvern to optimise its impact on the schools involved. We are sure QinetiQ will be involved in more exciting STEM Outreach opportunities as a result of Annette’s vision and commitment.”

PricewaterhouseCoopers ‘Building Public Trust’ awards
QinetiQ was highly commended in the ‘Recognition in the FTSE250 for Excellence in Reporting’ category.

These awards look at all the annual reports in the FTSE100, FTSE250 and public sector. Commenting on the QinetiQ document the judges said:

“This report cuts brilliantly through the opacity and complexity of the aerospace and defence industry to provide real, joined-up insights into the group’s markets, strategies, capability and performance. Excellent coverage of underlying performance, risks and net debt/cashflow.”
