Human Performance

We have a well-established track record in providing support to reduce the risk to humans of exposure to complex, hazardous, and physiologically stressful environments. This is underpinned by more than 20 years’ experience in the research, design, testing and evaluation and integration of personal protection solutions that optimise human performance and satisfy duty of care and legislative requirements, in both air and land settings.

Central to our capability is our world-class team of scientists, physicists, physiologists, psychologists and aeromedical specialists with extensive research and practical experience in manned trials in both the laboratory and operational setting. This capability is supported by comprehensive facilities to research, develop and evaluate both single components and complete personal protective systems. They include:

  • Man rated altitude and climatic test chambers
  • Two man rated centrifuges
  • An ejection seat test rig
  • A range of facilities to simulate noise and vibration environments

This capability is also available for training aircrew and others to respond appropriately to hazardous situations.

We specialise in managing entire projects from concept through to delivery, and do so routinely for the UK MOD and non-military customers. For example, we have provided guidance on minimising fatigue for organisations including Airbus, BA, British Ports Authority, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, and Rail Safety and Standards Board. Customers we have advised on the physiological effects of heat include the MOD, UK Home Office and London Underground.
