Established over 65 years ago, our Empire Test Pilots’ School® (ETPS®) is based at the UK’s MOD Boscombe Down. It is part of the Air Test & Evaluation Collaboration (ATEC) which we run in partnership with MOD.
ETPS® is the cornerstone of MOD’s flight test training for flight test professionals to ensure the efficient and cost-effective procurement and deployment of equipment to front line operations. The school is world renowned for training students from many other countries and across the wider international defence sector.
Our flagship training course is the one-year graduate course for test pilots and flight test engineers. Successful completion qualifies graduates to conduct experimental test flying on all types of civil and military aircraft.
The school also offers a three-month Diploma Course aimed at military and civil pilots and engineers engaged in aircraft development, production and acceptance programmes. An additional three short specialist courses offer:
- An overview of the processes associated with the test, evaluation and acceptance of UK MOD aircraft procurement programmes
- Experienced military pilots the opportunity to acquire the knowledge to facilitate the planning and performance of safe and efficient post maintenance air-tests
- An introduction to the best techniques for establishing the operating limits for helicopter ship-borne operations
