We have decades of experience in leading the design, development and testing of hybrid electric drive (HED) transmissions for tracked and wheeled vehicles.
Our electro-mechanical expertise led to the successful development of our innovative E-X-Drive® design which will have significant benefits for future military vehicles. E-X-Drive’s advantages include:
- It’s lightweight and extremely compact compared with a conventional transmission
- Vehicles equipped with E-X-Drive will save around 25% in fuel
- It offers a high degree of fault tolerance
- It produces faster acceleration, essential in a hostile situation
- The design can be readily adapted to suit a range of tracked vehicles
E-X-Drive was selected for manned ground vehicle (MGV) integration by the US Army’s Future Combat System (FCS). We have since re-configured E-X-Drive so that it delivers the expected performance necessary for the follow-on to the FCS MGV platform, known as the Ground Combat Vehicle (GCV). A 15% increase in transmission mass delivers 85% more torque.
To evaluate HED technology for wheeled vehicles, we have built and tested a 6x6 HED demonstrator vehicle. This includes our drive-by-wire control system, electric hub drives, ZEBRA™ batteries and a pair of diesel generators.
We also offer design, analysis, simulation and practical testing of hybrid-electric solutions to our customers. Our simulation models include HYSIM® for fuel efficiency, TrackSIM™ to evaluate E-X-Drive performance plus fault tolerance and WheelSIM™ for analysis of individual wheel control.
