Directed Energy Weapons and Electromagnetic Environmental Effects

The Directed Energy Weapons and Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (DEW & E3) capability provides assurance, technical expertise and test and evaluation services for equipment, systems and platforms that produce or operate within a wide range of electromagnetic environments.

Our key area of focus is DEW where, in addition to our own capability, we work closely with colleagues from around the QinetiQ organisation to provide through life support for systems manufacturers and for owners and operators of assets and infrastructure who need to understand and mitigate their vulnerability to these threats.

Our services include:

  • System / platform hardening, protection and counter measures
  • Safety, interoperability and collateral effects assessment and mitigation
  • System performance, characterisation and interoperability
  • Test and evaluation
  • System / platform integration advice
  • Training
  • Electromagnetics Modelling

Our DEW capability is underpinned and supported by complimentary capabilities providing an expert resource pool with the agility to respond to evolving market requirements.

TEMPEST

Our TEMPEST team is accredited by CESG for TEMPEST testing of equipment and platforms, a process which assures that the design and performance of a system prevents the unintentional transmission of secure data.

High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF)

Our HIRF team provide advice and have developed innovative, efficient and cost effective procedures for the testing of systems and platforms, particularly aircraft, to provide assurance regarding their ability to operate safely in natural and man-made electromagnetic environments.

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)

Our EMC team are a mobile capability as well as a range of state of the art test chambers covering EMC and Environmental testing accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). We can be found as Lab 1936 in the UKAS testing laboratories schedule on www.UKAS.com.

The EMC team have experience of providing EMC, Lightning and RadHaz advice and testing on complex systems in all domains.
