National Apprenticeship Week 2025

11/02/2025

We're proud to invest in future talent through apprenticeships. National Apprenticeship Week is a great reminder to celebrate the impact they can have, not just in developing future talent, but in strengthening industries.

On Tuesday 4 February, two members of our Early Careers Programme, James (Project Management Graduate undertaking a Level 4 Project Management Apprenticeship) and Heather (Level 6 Business Management Degree Apprentice), were invited to attend the ADS Parliamentary reception.

The event celebrates the 23,000 apprentices working across the UK’s aerospace, defence and security sectors. With over 100 apprentices attending from 27 organisations and 50 parliamentarians, the event offers the chance to engage with influential figures and highlight how apprenticeships play a crucial role in addressing skills gaps within the industry.

Throughout the event, our apprentices met with local MP’s – Alex Baker MP, Gregory Stafford MP, Olivia Bailey MP, and in addition Dame Nia Griffith MP – to discuss their experiences of the apprenticeship programmes that QinetiQ provide. It was clear from the conversations that took place that there is great confidence into the value apprenticeships bring, especially the role they play in fostering innovation and creating sustainable high quality career pathways.

They had the opportunity to meet Maria Eagle, Minister for Defence Procurement, where they took the chance to highlight our dedication to fostering a supportive learning environment, ensuring apprentices gain the technical expertise, leadership skills and hands on experience to excel within the industry. She was interested to hear about the range of early careers and upskilling opportunities provided at QinetiQ, along with Heather and James’s own future career aspirations.

Our apprentices had a fantastic experience attending such a high-profile event dedicated to reinforcing the importance of apprenticeships in shaping the future.

I feel very lucky to have attended an event full of individuals who truly support the importance of apprenticeships. It was inspiring to see MP’s genuine interest in the work we do at QinetiQ and how our blended learning experience helps us as apprentices develop both practical skills and knowledge.
