QinetiQ receives key defence approvals to enhance aircraft design and production

31.03.2025

Canberra, Australia – Tuesday, 1 April 2025 – QinetiQ has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Australian defence and security company to hold both Defence Aviation Safety Regulations (DASR) Subpart 21J Military Design Organisation, and Subpart 21G Military Production Organisation approvals for all Australian Defence Force (ADF) aircraft. This dual certification is unique, as its applicability across all Australian Defence Force aircraft types offers unparalleled flexibility and expertise in both design and production.

With the Subpart 21J Military Design Organisation approval, QinetiQ is authorised to design and certify structural and mechanical systems for Defence aircraft. The addition of the Subpart 21G Military Production Organisation approval now enables QinetiQ to build and supply structural, mechanical, and electronic parts and appliances across all ADF aircraft.

Together, these approvals provide an integrated, end-to-end capability for Defence customers, ensuring both the design and production of critical components can be managed under one roof.

“We are incredibly proud to be the only organisation in Australia to hold both 21J and 21G approvals for all ADF aircraft, which uniquely positions us to offer comprehensive, tailored solutions providing our Defence customers and OEMs with a reliable, innovative partner to enhance the capability of their aircraft platforms and support mission success,” said Simon Fredericks, QinetiQ Managing Director, Engineering Services Australia Sector.

QinetiQ is only the sixth company in Australia to receive the DASR Subpart 21G authority, a distinction that expands the company’s already extensive capabilities in aerospace design, production, and certification.

"By continuing to invest in and expand our technology, engineering, and production capabilities, we remain committed to meeting the evolving needs of Australia’s Defence requirements, enabling them to enhance the performance and capabilities of critical air platforms while better supporting the needs of the warfighter,” added Fredericks.
